The author of the book is called Harper Lee and is largely based upon her childhood during the 1930’s. The era is set during years of civil rights unbalance towards coloured people. I found out that Harper Lee was born in April 28 1926 however in the book ‘Scout’ was 6 so the year the book takes place is from 1932-1935.
Lee’s father was a former proprietor, practised law and served in the Alabama State Legislature. Before her father became a titled lawyer, he defended two black men charged with first degree murder of a white storekeeper. Sadly both men, a father and son, were hanged. I believe Harper Lee relates her father’s case to the one of Atticuss’ in the book. Further more, I think that Lee created Atticus from the role of her father and what he did inspired her plot of the book.
Other character’s were also inspired by Harper Lee’s childhood, there is evidence of this from other people’s personal account’s of the event’s from people who knew Lee.
